Quinn Lamont Luke, formerly know as Bing Ji Ling is back at it. Starting in the early 2000’s, he toured regularly opening for and backing up Tommy Guerrero as a part of his band, and has released three full length albums in Japan.
かつて「ビンジリン」のソロ名義で活動を繰り広げていた、シンガー・ソングライター、プロデューサー、クイン・ラモント・ルークが戻って来た。2000年代の初頭から、定期的にトミー・ゲレロ・バンドの一員として日本国内のツアーを回り、ソロ・アーティストとしてそのライヴの前座も務め、お馴染みだった彼は、今まで３枚のソロ・アルバムを発表して来た。
The past 10 years his attention shifted from writing, recording, releasing, and performing music, to setting up a family life on a small farm in Woodstock, NY, and a destination recording studio (password: magico) on the coast of Oaxaca, Mexico in the village of Mazunte. As these phases of life and work are evolving and nearly completion, he is re-engaging with his music career full force. He has a new collection of solo material and a collaborative album with Tommy Guerrero, and has just finished producing an album for Charlie Hall of the Grammy winning American rock band the War On Drugs.
クインはこの10年間、今までやり続けていた作曲、レコーディング、リリースと演奏などの音楽活動から少し離れ、ニューヨーク州のウッドストックにある小さな農場で新しい家族を始め、メキシコ、オアハカの海岸沿いにあるマズンテという小さな村に 新鋭レコーディング・スタジオの建築に専念していた。ようやくこの彼自身の人生とこの営みが落ち着き、ほぼ完了しつつあるので、クインは今全力投球で自身の音楽キャリアの復帰を試みようとている。新録のソロ作の準備が整えられ、トミー・ゲレロとのコラボ・アルバムやグラミー賞を受賞したアメリカを代表するロック・バンド、ウォー・オン・ドラッグスのメンバー、チャーリー・ホールのソロ・アルバムを手がけたばかりだ。
In actual fact, Luke did manage to squeeze some nice music out over the past 10 years, he just did so quietly. Much of the music was never released properly in Japan. This brings to light the opportunity for Quinn Lamont Luke- collected works 2012-2022. The collection would features songs released under the now retired moniker of Bing Ji Ling, his own name, and collaborations with Cantoma, Psychmagik, Paul “Mudd” Murphy of Claremont 56 in the groups Paqua and Smith And Mudd. Though recorded over a broad time span and with various collaborators, the songs are stitched together through Luke’s songwriting, vocals, and production input.
実を言うと、少なからずルーク氏はこの10年間密かに幾つかの良い作品を他のアーティストとコラボレイションし、手がけていて、彼らのレーベルから発表していた。日本にはこのコラボ作は輸入盤で入っていたが、正式に国内発売されていなかったのが事実だ。この機会に置いて、自身の音楽活動の再開を日本ファンに表明するために、『Quinn Lamont Luke- collected works 2012-2022』と言う、この近年出していた音源を集めたコンピレイションを彼は出そうと考えている。お蔵入りにしたビンジリン名義で手がけた作品、彼自身の仲間であるバレアリック界の重鎮達、 Cantoma、Psychmagik、Paul “Mudd” Murphy of Claremont 56 (PaquaやSmith & Mudd名義）などとコラボレートした作品を集めたコンピレイションだ。本作には長い間、多数のプロデューサーとのコラボレイションで録音された諸作品の多くが収録されているが、ルーク氏自身の作曲、ヴォーカルと制作の意気込みが二十分に注入されていて、良い感じに織り混ぜているので、きっとクイン・ラモント・ルークのファンや新鋭ロックが好きなファンに取って、大いに聴きたがるコレクションに仕上がっている。
